What Is the Artist Thinking? (continued)
"In the Foreground? Background? series of 3 paintings so far
(Spinning Galaxy,
Cool Glow and
Sea at Play with the Sun),
I’m investigating the illusion of depth by raising questions as to what is foreground, middle ground, and background in any particular work. With all elements of composition in mind, I work toward a 'perfect ambiguity', and in doing so, hopefully create compelling imagery."
"As one fairly new to painting, it would be very difficult for me to define the extent of my interest. I am attracted the figurative, the narrative and the abstract- but as I mentioned before- This is only my beginning."

Comments from the November 2008 Exhibition:
"Sea at Play with the Sun
- A very wonderful name for a wonderful, colorful art!"
—PUY
"Gerry - You are amazing - love your visions!"
—NS
"Sea at Play with the Sun
feels very tropical, fun, makes me think of the sound of Caribbean steel drums, very musical."
—Anonymous
"Still Life with Gourds
has great texture and contrast, but just something to consider - the lemon has less texture than the other objects in the piece, including the table and background, but on that note, this painting shows great ability and control over the use of your mediums - I love it!"

"Sea at Play with the Sun
is very comforting to look at on a cold wintry day; like having a Caribbean holiday in the islands."

"I'm trying not to think!!!"
"Thinking is for learning the skills...I try to avoid that too... I'm so ornery. I just stumble around having fun and saying with paint what words cannot. Painting is pure joy. As a writer I am glad to be released from the confines of a sentence, to speak in terms of color and HU. (HU= an ancient name for God). So in a pun I slip the secret- heaven speaks thru art. The less I use logic, the more I open my heart to heaven, the more I can express..."

Comments from the November 2008 Exhibition:
"Hi Nancy Lee! I like your work. I can't even pick a favorite -
Medicine Wheel,
Fleurs for Bea -
both are wonderful. Keep up the good work!"
—Elizabeth Triano
"I painted this picture in a week-long Organic Abstraction class with Susan Ferri. As I remember this experience, the process was very improtant to me. Instead of painting the first day, we went outside and gathered organic materials. Then we schetched. This painting evolved from one of the sketches I made that first day. When I look at this painting, the process awes me. This painting emerged from the miniscule cracks and crevices of a nutshell!"

"Untitled
looks like a beautiful painting of bones, joints and muscles! A chiropractor should buy this for the office!"
—PUY
"Hi Rita - I knew when I saw these that they were yours. Who is
Mercedes?"
—Judy Torska
"There's a lot more that meets the eye right away with
Sandra Dee.
Your rusty water reflections and radioactive water - do they bespeak a world in which all is not what it appears?"
—Bob H.
"I feel like you conveyed a strange emotional intensity through your painting of
Mercedes.
The yellow background contributes to it, and helps the painting, in my opinion. BRAVO!"

"Great job varying textures while still holding unity. I see and acorn/seeds, mushrooms, tree bark and just an overall sense of organic matters."
